Loved it!

I've never read a travel memoir but it turns out they're kind of my thing! I loved reading A Rooster Crows in Lisbon. The writing style is very descriptive and quick witted. I was laughing and daydreaming about the cafes, art, food, and adventure. I really enjoyed this book and have recommended it several times now. If you want a little brain vacation you should crack open your E-reader fly to Portugal. Loved it!

Considering a trip to the beautiful city of Lisbon, Portugal? You would do well to consider this delightful book as your introduction to the sights and sounds of one of the most overlooked destinations in Europe. Accompany the author on a quest to search out the history and craft of Portuguese tile making. (An art form perhaps not familiar to most, but very much worthy of a closer look, who knew)!
Lisbon is an ancient city that is famous for its boundless array of sweeping tile murals, found not only in obvious landmarks such as the many castles, libraries and palaces, but also in an abundance of private and public spaces both grand and small. You may consider yourself not exactly, “into” the particulars of tile making, no matter, the author’s pursuit of beauty and knowledge is an enjoyable journey down a road less traveled, so tag along regardless!
As a suggestion, you may find it advantageous to avail yourself of an additional electronic device with a mapping website at the ready as you explore along with your guide, as many names and address’ of the featured sites are mentioned throughout. Such an addition of visual effect goes a long way to enhance the touring experience.
To sum it all up, the take-away would suggest an invitation to the reader to embrace the adventure that is found in the different and unfamiliar, just as it did our intrepid guide. A surprisingly funny and insightful read! I couldn't help but feel transported by the authors talented story telling. I've never considered Lisbon to be on my travel bucket list but this humorous account told through the eyes of your typical American housewife was inspiring and heart warming. Hilarious encounters, humbling grounded insight, and tile making in Portugal. What more could you want?
